The Auld Sweetie Shop
Stanley, Perthshire, Scotland
Large cosy holiday home in Stanley, with a huge, enclosed, peaceful back garden.
The house is in Stanley, in the heart of Perthshire: the gateway to the Scottish Highlands. The house is very quirky and full of character. It used to be a sweetie shop, hence the name. The house has a garden and free on street parking.
Stanley is just 7 miles drive from Perth, and being only an hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh, it’s a perfect country retreat. The River Tay is a five-minute walk from the house, so it’s ideal for fishers and anglers. There are two village pubs and two great restaurants within walking distance. The perfect place to unwind after a busy day exploring beautiful Highland Perthshire and to relax in this home-away-from home.
Bedrooms
The house has three bedrooms: a master bedroom with en-suite shower room on the first floor, as well as a double bedroom and a twin bedroom on the top floor.
Sitting room
A cosy space on the first floor with a view over the garden, a large television with Netflix, a writing desk, and a wood-stove-effect electric heater.
Dining room
The house used to be a sweetie shop, hence the name. We have a photo on display taken around 100 years ago, when this room was the hub of the house and filled with all sorts of delicious treats.
Kitchen
The fully equipped kitchen, which has direct access to both the garden and dining room, provides guests with a dishwasher, a microwave, a washing machine, a fridge and an oven.
Bathroom
The main bathroom in the house has a bath with a powered shower, a wash basin and a W.C. (The master bedroom also has an en-suite shower room.)
Garden
There is a large south facing, fully enclosed garden at the back of the house which is an oasis for wildlife. The pond has goldfish and event a resident toad! You can relax and enjoy the birds visiting the feeders: we have so many lovely avian visitors, from the resident house-sparrows to goldfinches, nuthatches, blue-tits, coal-tits, song-thrushes and – if you are lucky – the osprey fishing over the River Tay at the back of the house.
Get in touch
I have lived in Perthshire all my life and so have great knowledge of the area. I live a short distance away and I am on hand to give recommendations on where to visit. I like to walk the hills, kayak and wild-swim in the many beautiful lochs in the area. I fell in love with Stanley and our house around 5 years ago and spent around two years lovingly restoring The Auld Sweetie Shop to a high standard. If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch.
